Vitamins

Vitamins are nutrients required only in small amounts, but are essential for growth and maintaining normal function of the body. Yogurt provides several B-vitamins such as Riboflavin and Thiamin.

Riboflavin

Riboflavin, also known as Vitamin B2, is important in energy metabolism by aiding energy release from fat, carbohydrate and protein. It is also involved in red blood cell formation, cell respiration, antibody production and growth regulation.

Thiamin

Thiamin (vitamin B1) helps the conversion of carbohydrate to energy, and plays a key role in supporting the nervous system, as well as cardiovascular and muscular functions.

Both of these are water soluble vitamins; they are excreted in urine so need to be replenished regularly.

Vitamin A and E

Full fat yogurt also contains reasonable amounts of Vitamin A and E, fat soluble vitamins. They are important for eye health, maintaining various functions of the body and having antioxidant properties.
